The urban situation of Budrio poses a double design problem regarding the city scenario: on one side, that of rediscovering its identity, even in the historical memory of the city walls and the moat, which has now disappeared; on the other, that of opening up to the outside, to “restitch” the historical centre to its most recent expansion, to “project” the city towards other peoples, cultures, nationalities. 

The need to regenerate was brought about by the drying up of the ancient town’s defensive moat, including the idea of regenerating the two water tanks, symbolic of the fact that as time and civilisation changes, so too does a vital source: water. Therefore, the theoretical re-use of the same structures, by now private and of functional value, must also pass through the symbolic recuperation of a strong identity of localisation, to reinvent an urban place.  

La situazione urbana di Budrio propone una doppia problematica progettuale riguardante lo scenario cittadino: da un lato, quella di ritrovare la propria identita’, anche nella memoria storica della cinta muraria e del fossato, ora scomparsi; dall’altro, quella di aprirsi all’esterno, di “ricucire”il centro storico all’espansione piu’ recente, di “proiettare”la citta’, in senso piu’ lato, verso altri popoli, culture, nazionalita’.
Il prosciugamento dell’antico fossato cittadino difensivo è il presupposto per rigenerare, anche i due serbatoi idrici, come a simbolizzare, nel passaggio di un’epoca e di civilta’, la mutazione di un valore vitale: quello dell’acqua. Quindi il riutilizzo ipotizzato delle stesse strutture, ormai private di valore funzionale, deve passare necessariamente anche attraverso il recupero simbolico di un’identita’ di localizzazione forte, per reinventare un luogo urbano.
